“Lives and works in Salzburg” – this sentence is an integral part of every artist’s biography, the city at the end being interchangeable. In her Lunch Talk, Elisabeth Schmirl reflects on what it means for her to live and work in a city like Salzburg – both as artist and as resident.
Her artistic self-perception also includes making a difference in the town – not simply inhabiting it as a consumer, but actively taking in what is there and producing what is needed. In 2006, towards the end of her studies, she co-founded the Salzburg off-space periscope, which initiates interdisciplinary projects in the area and sees itself in the tradition of “New Genre Public Art” (Suzanne Lacy) – a variety of art in public space which emerged during the 1990s.
Elisabeth Schmirl will present examples of her own work as well as projects of the periscope initiative.
