This course has two aims: on the one hand, individual conversations to investigate students' ideas and to develop their personal artistic language. The drawing may be seen as an end product or as a step towards an installation, painting, screenplay or utopian urban design. The main thing is that drawing should be used as a "desiring machine" for constructing worlds of one's own.
On the other hand, the course is intended as a platform for the exchange of subjective approaches to work, with drawing taken as the means of urban exploration. We will develop drawing as a technology for analysing and decoding urban fabrics. Participants will go on expeditions into unfamiliar or forgotten areas of the town, in search of submerged traces of the imaginary in the walls of everyday life. Through excursions, inputs, shared reading of poetic and theoretical texts, tasks and exercises in getting lost, they will learn new ways of looking at things, as well as imaginatively to extend their own boundaries.
Drawing as a direct means of artistic expression will be the initial medium, but later in the course photography or other chosen techniques may be used. The emphasis is on subjectivity and on uncovering latent potential, on getting away from established routine, trying out new resources and refining our own concepts.
