This course is designed with a new idea: We will maintain mutual contact and exchange with the participants of Anders Kreuger’s curatorial course, in order to learn more about the curatorial point of view in theoretical thinking about image production, and to benefit from this mutual inspiration.

At the beginning, we will read and discuss together significant critical texts by Walter Benjamin, Gilles Deleuze, Sergey Eisenstein and Willem Flusser, which motivate us to think about images, about how they work and what they mean. Parallel to these day-time readings, we will meet in the evening to look at visual examples illustrating the theory. Additionally, participants and teachers of this course will present their previous works to participants of both courses.

After this initial practice we will hold our own group exercises, exploring how we can represent things, and how a visual language can be constructed. Our production concerns video, as well as drawing, photography and indeed any medium, including ready-made, taking the city as the starting-point for our ideas and using the medium in a free and open way.

During the last few days, again in collaboration with the other course, we will discuss and exchange our opinions, ideas and experiences, and work on a final presentation that may or may not take the form of an exhibition.
