Location: Residenzplatz 10, 5020 SalzburgI would like to describe stages in production by looking at the changes in specific series of works. How are objects defined by their conditions of production? How are craftsmanship and incompetence interlinked? Do errors in translation slip between productive discontent and new formal territory? The lecture deals with styles of workmanship that take account of the material, and the tools that give the semi-finished product a different awareness. What is a really good sausage, and which one is just about outstanding? -
Michael Beutler, was born in Oldenburg (DE) in 1976. His works are usually a reaction to the social and architectural structure of the particular exhibition space, used equally as production facility and place of presentation. In order to produce the modules for his installations, he first constructs his own machines, then processes industrially manufactured materials such as paper, metal, wood or plastics, often involving others in the creation of his works. He sees this state of temporary uncertainty and processual development as a productive component of his work (Thomas Thiel, Bielefeld Kunstverein 2014).
