The work Ateliermodell shows a situation in a stone sculptor’s workshop. Executed mostly in marble, it serves also as a kind of depot for sculptural reflections on the subject of stone. “It’s really a scale model of my studio, with the elements of time and space left open. I think it’s a good way of illustrating my method. I see the work as a kind of interface: art and reality keep changing places”, the artist explains. The paving-stone becomes a block of stone, the marble souvenir becomes a lamp. Niedertscheider will use this model to discuss the themes of his work, starting with his performances, through his marble installations and up to his reliefs. The small marble tablet Florenz, serving as demonstration material, points to a very interesting possibility in the realm of stone sculpture. Its small scale makes it easy to handle without great technical effort, so it is well suited for multi-faceted presentation and communication.
