Adriana Czernin

Investigation of the inside is a project which Adriana Czernin has been working on since 2008. It is primarily an attempt to discover, understand and express psychological procedures. She explores the transitions from conscious to unconscious and from visible to invisible, and vice versa, seeking the precise moments of transition and how these can be recognised and perceived.

In her lecture, she will present this project and talk about the link between psychological processes and questions of abstraction, figuration and ornament. She sees ornament – which plays an outstanding role in her work – as a system of rules, consistent and uncompromising in its construction, and in a contradictory and conflict-laden relation to the figure, whether human or amorphous.
