Peter Niedertscheider
Making artistic use of scenes of modern mass culture / 18.08.2015 13:30
Location: Festung Hohensalzburg
Language: German with English translation
The focus of Peter Niedertscheider’s current work lies on the artistic use of modern mass culture and crowd management. He transfers his own photographs or images from the internet (the most recent and volatile cultural phenomenon) on to stone – an ideal medium, as demonstrated by a long historical tradition.
He will explain his technical approach and the properties of the material, taking marble installations and reliefs as illustration. Topics dealt with will include the time-consuming work involved and the possibilities of reproduction by machine, and thus questions of the quarrying and industrial use of stone, and whether it still makes sense to work by hand.
