Elisabeth Schmirl’s image-finding process focuses on generating meaning without trying to “mean” too much. She creates new pictures from found footage. Her archive contains found images, historical pictures dating from recent or more distant times. At the end of the process there is a work of art which, through the technical rendering and the method of dealing with the original images, reveals a new, relevant meaning. Here the artist will offer insights into her method, selecting examples to illustrate the shifts in meaning. What is her experience, as the first viewer of her works? What is important to her? This process is often regarded as a dialogue with or about the medium. About her Lunch Talk, Elisabeth Schmirl says: “I would like to think aloud in front of the audience, and to discuss these thoughts with them. I will talk about the intentions, strategies and aims at the centre of my artistic practice.”
