CANCELLED DUE TO ILLNESS
In many of his works, Kader Attia examines the various practices of mutual appropriation and representation in European and non-European cultures.
For a new production in the thematic exhibition Art/Histories in the Museum of Modern Art, Kader Attia has made a close study of the ethnological collection of the Missionary Sisters of St Peter Claver in Bergheim, near Salzburg, and the collection in the Cabinet of Curiosities in the Salzburg Cathedral Museum.
The artist is particularly interested in the shift insignificance undergone by the non-European artefacts in the course of their presentation, and the constructed interpretation of “other” cultures conveyed by the way the objects are displayed.
In his talk, Kader Attia explains the background to his research for his Salzburg installation, outlines his working methods and welcomes discussion.
