In the post-industrial era, the city has gained importance as the scene of production of styles, attitudes, subcultures and ideas. Moreover – and this is the focus of this evening’s discussion – new places of collective production are emerging. If Bohemian artists were still defined primarily through their rejection of industrial production logics, creative artists today have to be permanently accessible and available; they no longer take leisurely strolls through the city – they rush from one appointment to the next, typing the latest slogan into their smartphones as they go. So, after the digital revolution, is the next thing going to be digital personalised production? We can already see new kinds of collective production places. This evening’s lecturers will discuss questions concerning spatialisation of urban struggles, as well as chances for new forms of collective production and whether and how these two developments are connected.
