Through words and images (and a few quotes) we will illustrate aspects of our twosome creative process and discuss them with the audience.
1. Home is where your art is
Joining life and work in the same time and space was not a clear decision made at a certain point, but rather a natural consequence of different choices. How much can we really determine our own lifestyle, working process and career?
2. Shared sensibilities and multiple identities
Being an artist duo is a complex affair. Intuitions have to be brought into words, visions need to be described, personal interests have to be discussed, certainties cease to exist, authorship is fluid. What do we think we learn from it?
3. Imaginary friends/impossible loves
We are digging deep into the work and life of the German writer Marie-Luise Kaschnitz (1901–1974). Why do we identify with someone from another space and time? Can other artists be a mirror we can reflect in/on/upon?
Melissa Dullius and Gustavo Jahn have formed Distruktur since 2007, when they moved together from southern Brazil to Berlin. They started making films together in 1999, first on Super 8 and later on 16mm, their medium until the present day. After joining the collective LaborBerlin in 2007 they started applying hand-made techniques to the making of their films. Beyond conceiving and producing moving images, they appear as actors and musicians and act as lab technicians, doing a great part of the post-production work of their films. Distruktur’s body of work takes form as films, installations, film performances, photographs, text and graphic. It crosses the borders between art and film, experimental and narrative, photography and moving image.
