Here we are concerned with youth and with the question of the significance of images in the lives of young people. Photographs have become a part of our everyday lives, and they play an important role in the construction of young people’s identity.

When trying to research the subject of youth by means of photography, we have to take into account the media images that influence young people’s everyday lives. Only to a limited extent does classical documentary photography seem suitable for this. It is more a question of finding new, experimental formats that focus on the very omnipresence of the media in our world.

During the course, each student will suggest an idea for a project (e.g. migration, social media, youth and public space...) and develop an independent conceptional procedure (e.g. portrait series, (self-)staging, cellphone photography...). All these projects should be carried out in some kind of personal collaboration with young people on site.

The aim is to produce presentable results which show correspondences between questions of content and concept.
