We shall study stories of the forms and the cultural significance of gardens past, present and future - the paradise garden, the pleasure-garden, imaginary gardens, the fateful and cruel garden, the sacred garden and the artificial garden. All these serve as a metaphor for artistic production.

We will set out on a garden journey, our starting-point being movement, colour, music and the poetic quality of our own experiences. The resultant individual works will be compiled into a "garden magazine", designed in the group, using collage, assemblage, papier-mâché objects, photography, performance and installation. The openness of these media allows each participant to choose an individual approach to the theme. Technical skill is not absolutely necessary; there is no "right" or "wrong", although our products must be clearly situated. Technical instruction will be offered, as well as visual and theoretical input and excursions.

"Collage technique is the systematic exploitation of the accidental or artificially provoked meeting of two or more mutually alien realities on an apparently inappropriate level - and the poetic spark which leaps across when these realities approach one another." Max Ernst, 1962
