We have been working in the medium of plasticine animation film for several years. Our special focus will be on intensive sculptural experience through figurative modelling and animation, and experiencing the difference between film time and real time, between model situation and reality. The films offer a narrative form for dealing with everyday experiences as well as political scenarios, so screenplay and narrative structures will also be an important part of the course. The parallel activities of modelling and filming will offer the opportunity of constant reflection on personal standpoint and understanding of the medium, measuring it against one's original conception.
We see this process at a deliberate distance from computer animation of film scenes. Post-production is a necessary though not a main part of the course.
Individual and group discussions will be held on work and artistic questions, as well as a variety of discussions, to which we will contribute our own artistic experience, on topics including art in public space, curating and art criticism as artistic practice, and forms of narration in installation and sculpture.
Our class will offer students the opportunity of producing their own independent artistic works, but plasticine filming is more productive and exciting in collaboration.
