KP: Oh, oh, woe is me ...
KP2: Oh, oh, please. It is only rain.
(Sincere recommendation- while reading the blog, listen to Gorillaz- Latin Simone- Que pasa contigo?)
......
What are they doing? How can they so quickly put their works in the rubbish? And then it hits me, things need to end so that something can begin. But, it all came way too quickly. It took us a week to understand where we are, one week to start and one week to produce and show.
KP: Oh, oh, woe is me...
KP2: Oh, oh, please. It is only rain.
It is the rain that slowed all of yesterday. The plans changed but in the end it all worked out. The doors to the working spaces opened up not only to each other but also for the public. Some more than others worked with the space they were given. Most seemed to prefer to leave the space in the sense of an open artist studio, leaving the brushes and canvases as well as work that was still in process around. Some paid more attention to the surroundings and created little universes that showed the amount of work that was done in the past three weeks. I was more than impressed with the works of the printmaking group organized by Leya Mira Brander, the video class by Felix Gmelin as well as the works of the class organized by Thomas Kilpper. It was incredible what they managed to do in this amount of time. Now while I am writing I am thinking that it is a shame that the works are not on show a little bit longer. Maybe, who knows, at one point a little collection of the works could be organized as a little museum or a permanent collection of the works produced here.
The goodbyes came too quickly for me as well. Speaking with some of the students I got the impression that all will take back with them really fond memories of the Academy and the time here. Some felt that the works they produced here may not have been to the best they could be but for sure the process of something new was opened here and that was what they wished for. One student also made an interesting suggestion that the curatorial class should have curated the show on display yesterday. Like the look from the outside. "I spend the last three weeks with this one idea. So how can I decide which pieces you need to understand my idea? For me, my idea is so obvious. Maybe someone from outside would have been able to make a better selection".
It is great to feel that even at the age of 60 the Summer Academy is still a place that people come to and leave it thinking what could be done next year or what else could be done here. Nobody is giving up on this place and this school.
On Monday we have new energy coming our way and I am really looking forward to seeing what else is in the cards for us all. But I must admit, I will miss new friends I made up till now and I do hope we will stay in touch.
