Tony Chakar

Tony Chakar is a Lebanese architect, who's comprehensive thinking includes literature, philosophy, and art. You do not need to be an architect to participate in his course as his interests reach beyond architecture. Just to get a little impression of the wide spread range of his subjects, have a look at this insightful talk below at Bunker Ljubljana August 2016. He is explaining the title of his show "On becoming two". If you happen to be in Beirut you can still see it until March 26 at Beirut Art Center.

"On becoming two" is not just a title of an exhibition but a concept of life. Chakar says that the idea of becoming two is what allows us to become a dialogue and he quotes Hölderlin "this conversation that we are". This is directed against an imperative of rigid statements and calls for divers arguments and an open thinking instead. It is definitely worth watching his talk. It is interesting to learn about different ideas of truth in roman and greek ancient time, or about the smile of a figure at the medieval cathedral of Chartre, or about Lilith, Adam's first wife, and see the connection with todays politics. Tony Chakar, who is born in 1968 in Beirut and has experienced war, has a deep understanding of the world and of humanity. It is impressive to see him talking with so much empathy. Look at it, you might become two or even three.
