Jayce Salloum

Salloum’s practice exists within and between the personal, quotidian, local and trans-national. His work engages in intimate subjectivity and discursive challenge while critically asserting itself in the perception of social manifestations and political realities. He has worked in installation, photography, drawing, performance, text and video since 1978 and is a recipient of the 2014 Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts.

Jayce Salloum will direct a two-week course from 20 July to 1 August 2015.

cinéma copains

Film-makers Arne Hector and Minze Tummescheit have worked together since 2000 as cinéma copains. Their long-term projects, which deal with social and economic questions, are based on several years' research. Their working method, "militant investigation", attempts to understand their subject from the inside.
In the film-essay "Jarmark Europa" Tummescheit and Hector describe the economic transformation of Eastern Europe, taking as an example the bazaar of that name in a converted sports stadium in Warsaw. "in arbeit" is a documentary series, a filmic examination of conditions, possibilities and boundaries of collective activity. The series creates direct links between collectives in various countries, thus becoming an experiment in authorship and co-operative practice. cinéma copains is currently working on a documentary film dealing with the colonisation of the future by means of complex financial instruments.

cinéma copains will direct a two-week course from 17 to 29 August 2015.

Tomasz Kowalski

"Part of the surprising charm of Tomasz Kowalski’s work is his idiosyncratic iconography. Through his personal imagination, everyday life experience morph into tragicomic stories, lending his imagery an enigmatic and psychedelic quality." (Press release Tim Van Laere Gallery) This year, Tomasz Kowalski has been awarded the Prix de dessin Contemporain of the Fondation Guerlain, Paris. Read here an interview with him on this occasion (in French) and here an interview in Flash Art online.

Tomasz Kowalski will direct a two-week course from 17 to 29 August 2015.

Varda Caivano

Her modest paintings invite prolonged scrutiny, and repay attention with intimate evocations that shift and grow with each viewing. Caivano's paintings are undeniably self-contained, yet they are also, unavoidably, touched by and suggestive of the world beyond the studio, beyond the gallery. In 2013 Caivano's work was presented within "The Encyclopedic Palace", the 55th International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia.
Varda Caivano will direct a two-week course from 20 July to 1 August 2015.
