Bernhard Martin

The artist invests meticulously in his own mutability, constantly ready to experiment in all directions; his main interest lies in the eccentric, in showing the enriching potential of what is out of the ordinary. His radical, masterly way of combining different styles of painting to create complete narratives ("I like to paint my own films") makes Martin one of the principal representatives of his generation. This summer, Martin has been awarded the 2015 Fred Thieler Prize for Painting.
Bernhard Martin will direct a two-week course from 20 July to 1 August 2015.

Nora Schultz

Nora Schultz works in sculpture, installation, photography and performance, shaping her material into abstract sculptures which are also protagonists in her performances. The printing machines and presses (most of which she developed herself) which she uses for her arrangements remain part of the installation. Recently, she has often worked with an imaginary partner – a parrot, a worm, tripods or a camera, which in the process contribute to developing the installation according to their own parameters.
Nora Schultz will direct a three-week course from 10 to 29 August 2015.

Marc Monzó

Marc Monzó’s self-reflexive minimalistic jewellery is about material and about the nature of objects themselves. His intention is to search for essential forms and to invite people to complete his unpretentious jewellery through their individual use. The emphasis is on the process and the aesthetics of what is not yet finished. Currently, his solo exhibition "THE OTHER SIDE OF JEWELRY" is on view at Oona Gallery in Berlin.
Marc Monzó will give a three-week course from 3 to 22 August 2015

Ben Katchor

Ben Katchor is an award-winning cartoonist living in New York. His picture stories—including Julius Knipl, Real Estate Photographer, The Jew of New York, The Cardboard Valise, Hotel & Farm, and Shoehorn Technique—have run in newspapers and magazines since 1986. "Ben Katchor is a recorder of vanished and vanishing places, a poet of the vast metropolis of New York. He notices, crucially, what others walk by, fail to see and generally disregard—a man living in the mosaic while seeing its details." (Alexander Theroux)
Ben Katchor will give a one-week course from 20 to 25 July 2015.

Advent calendar

There is no snow in Salzburg yet, only the traditional "Christkindl-Markt" suggests a winter wonderland and reminds us of the approaching end of the year. Since September we have worked hard on the new 2015 Summer Academy course programme; it's nearly done. Appropriate to the season, our blog is an Advent calendar now, where each day we present one of our next year's teaching artists, curators and writers. At Christmas the whole programme with detailed course descriptions will be online. Stay tuned!
