Norbert Bisky

What do we perceive in our surroundings? How does an image take shape in our mind’s eye, and what is its relation to the picture we create on canvas or paper? In Norbert Bisky's course you will consider the relationship between perception and visualisation.
Currently Bisky's work is included in the exhibition "Paperworlds" at me Collectors Room in Berlin, still on view until 29 June. On May 15, he will talk there about his childhood drawings and the exhibition. On June 7, a solo show with Bisky's works on paper will open at Galerie Daniel Templon in Paris.

Paolo Woods

"I am convinced that photography has its own language", says Paolo Woods, who devotes his time to long-term projects that blend photography with investigative journalism. In his course "What do you mean?", taking place from 21 July to 2 August, you will learn how to master this language and above all you will learn how to tell stories. Apply now and join this course to rethink your photographic language.
Today is the opening of Paolo Woods' exhibition LETA in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where he presents his work on Haiti. Together with Swiss journalist Arnaud Robert, he accomplished the project STATE (LETA in creole), which questions the notion of STATE in Haitian society.
The show opens on the Champ de Mars, on the outside walls of the University of Ethnology (Faculté d’Ethnologie), Port-au-Prince, on April 25, 2014, at 5 pm.

Wieland Schmied has died

The Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts mourns the passing of Wieland Schmied, its long-time President (1981-1999), who died aged 85 in Vorchdorf, Austria, on Tuesday 22 April 2014.

Under his directorship, many internationally distinguished artists taught at the Summer Academy and an extensive programme of lectures and exhibitions was instituted.
"Well equipped with outstanding contacts in the major art centres of the day [...], Schmied achieved belated but convincing links between the Salzburg Summer Academy and the post-war avant-garde in Cologne, Berlin, Paris, Milan and New York." Thus Martin Fritz, in his essay on the history of the Summer Academy, published in 2013 in "The World's Finest Studio. 60 years of the Salzburg International Academy of Fine Arts", to mark its 60th anniversary.
We will remember Wieland Schmied with gratitude and appreciation.

Adriana Czernin

Drawing within contemporary art today means much more than to outline an idea or to quickly visualize one's thoughts. It's a whole reflexive process, finding its expression on a paper, on a wall, or in a room; in single works or whole series. If you like to find out more about the diversity of possibilities offered by this medium, apply here for Adriana Czernin's course "Drawing – idea, context, picture", taking place from 11 to 30 August.
Currently, Adriana Czernin's works are on view in the group exhibitions "The collection #4" at 21er Haus in Vienna until 21 April and in the touring group exhibition "Desiring the real. Austria contemporary" at the Art Gallery of Bosnia-Herzegovina until 30 April.
