"Abstract Possible" is curated by Maria Lind who is directing the class "The histories and practices of curating" at the 2011 Summer Academy.

Until 15 May 2011 you can apply regularly for all our courses.

"What do pictures tell us? Our world is full of them, and there should be good reasons for adding to them. What kind of reasons could these be?" asks Peter Friedl (i.e. documenta 12 Kassel 2007) in his course "Pictures as concepts" from 18 July to 6 August 2011. The course evokes not so much the materiality of art, as its potential for intensifying aesthetic experiences and finding suitable models.

"Acts with objects in urban space", this is what Christian Philipp Müller (currently contributing to the exhibition "Theatergarten Bestiarium" at Haus der Kunst, Munich) tries out with the participants of his course from 8 to 27 August 2011. Finding the ideal place will be as important as an adequate documentation.

All in all we are offering 20 courses in painting, drawing, figure modelling, printmaking, stone sculpture, photography, jewellery, and garden architecture. Please find further information here

Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts recommends the two day workshop with Lucrezia Cippitelli: The Global art system, contemporary internationalism and ways to challenge the mainstream
on 29th and 30th of April, 2011 at Alexandria Contemporary Arts Forum (ACAF).

Samir Amin's analysis of the concept of Eurocentrism traces its origins back to the end of the 1970s, even if it seems to perfectly depict the world of the early 21st century: "Eurocentrism is anti-universalist, since it is not interested in seeking possible general laws of human evolution. But it does present itself as Universalist, for it claims that imitation of the Western model by all peoples is the only solution to the challenges of our time." Art history and the global art system are no exception to this ideological construction of a monolithic center of the world opposed to (or imitated by) a wide and undefined periphery. The workshop will focus on the Contemporary Art System, the legacy of Eurocentrism and the notion of internationalism in recent decades.

Lucrezia Cippitelli, PhD, is professor of Aesthetics at the Art Academy of L'Aquila, a visiting scholar at Cornell University, and invited curator of the TIME_FRAME project at NIMK, Amsterdam and is currently working as consultant curator for Habana Biennale. She is the author of Alamar Express Lab (Rome, Gangemi, 2007) and co-editor of Tania Bruguera (Milan, Postmedia, 2010).

From April 22 to July 3, 2011, The Ludwig Museum in Budapest will present the exhibition "Sing!" of Mladen Stilinović, who is holding the course "Reflection on art and no-art"  July 18 - August 6 this year at International Summer Academy.
The retrospective show in Ludwig Museum is his first exhibition of such large scale in Hungary as well as in the region, presenting his most important installations, collages, photographs, artist's books, and groups of artworks. Throughout his diversified work, Stilinović explores ideological signs and their social aspects. His works criticise the language of politics, the institutional hierarchy within art, and the role of money and labour in society using the devices of irony, paradox and manipulation.
