60 years of art in 6 hours

At the beginning of her lecture Hildegund Amanshauser, director of the Summer Academy, told the audience about her conversation with Daniel Richter the evening before - he didn't approve the idea of lecturing about art history in 6 hours, stating that this was impossible and somehow pointless. Referring to this Ms. Amanshauser stressed that her lecture cold only be a subjective view on the history of art, however striving for objectivity. She explained that having been herself a curator in the 1980s, she has a twofold standpoint looking at that time, since she shaped herself what might become part of contemporary art - complementing the lecture with several video clippings. Ms. Amanshauser ended the lecture with a few seconds of the video "Der Lauf der Dinge" (the run of things), shown at the documenta IX in 1992 - referring to the development of art by saying, "one thing develops out of another and it can always be interpreted differently".
