"Every day we see hundereds of faces, but our own we only see in the relection of a mirror, or a photo." As she twists her faces to find more under their surface, they become "a bit more honest, but it still doesn't get us closer to ourselves."
So in the end, be it through reassembling fragments, siding an image with an altered double to fade the boarders between original and copy, or by covering different faces with her hand, she always returns to her deeper questions:
What is the authentic original? How can we know? And what happens to the copy?
Exploring Salzburg - Gallery Thaddaeus Ropac - Halle
2600 square meters entrepot were the starting point for creating the exhibition space HALLE in Vilniusstrasse 13 at the outskirts of Salzburg. Today one part serves as depot, where 3500 art works are being stored; a second part of 400 square meters offers an amply dimensioned exhibition space.
A preview of the unfinished show of Richard Deacon. Arne Ehmann, the gallery director, explained that the gallery's actual policy is less celebrities more decent work with collectors and museum people. Most of the money is made with a few famous artists like Baselitz, Kabakov, Katz and Kiefer ...

Lunch Talk - Destiny Deacon
"I saw white people making art and I thought: It's not fair. I want to do this too. And I have a story to tell..." says aborigine-born Destiny Deacon at the opening of her talk held at the summer academy. The history of her people and the way they actually were not seen as people for a long time keeps resurfacing in her work.
Yet she is devoid of any anger. A smile on her face, she raises a fist and exclaims: We wanted what everybody had.
Behind her flickers the image of a black doll in front of a fence, talking or climbing it, we can't know. "I like using dolls and inanimate objects in my photos, people get hungry or bored, they yawn and complain." Upon further questioning she admits that she also likes how " a doll is an empty object I can fill with ideas and meanings of my own."
Vernissage Destiny Deacon and Virgina Fraser
It's Playblak Time: A Neighbourghood Watch in Several Acts - that's the title of Destiny Deacon's and Virgina Fraser's exhibition at kunstraum pro arte in Hallein which was opened yesterday evening.
After hearing the mystery stories of the dolls shown in her photographs and installations the audience gathered in the gallery patio enjoying wine and cheese.
