Kader Attia

Recently the Berlin Akademie der Künste has awarded the Berlin Art Prize for fine arts to Kader Attia. The prize-giving will take place on 18 March 2014 in Berlin. Attia's work is currently on view until 31 March at the Marrakech Biennale and until 23 November at the Whitechapel Gallery in London, beside others.

Lucy Sarneel

 

"A ring is not just a thing". That's the title of Lucy Sarneel's course in jewellery design, taking place from 11 to 30 August. "A jewel is an outstanding medium for projecting our desires and the things we believe in, to support our spiritual well-being", Sarneel says. In this course, you will develop your individual working process and your own jewellery cosmos through research, sketching and writing.

Are you looking for new inspiration in old techniques in film-making? For the first time, Salzburg International Summer Academy will provide a course in analogue film-making. Since the 1990s, independent film laboratories have been organized worldwide, reflecting a need to appropriate the process - standardized by the industry - of developing and editing film. Arne Hector and Minze Tummescheit, working together as cinéma copains, belong to the most important representatives of analogue film-makers in Europe. Most recently, their latest installation Fictures and Futures #1 was on view at the Forum Expanded section of the Berlinale. Apply here for their course, taking place from 4 to 16 August.

Doug Ashford

 

What is the nature of human life? What are the current expectations of the qualities of "humanness"? This is what Doug Ashford will research on theoretically and practically in his course The non-human taking place from 4 to 16 August.

If you happen to be in Cambridge, MA you will have the chance to attend Doug Ashford's artist talk at Harvard University this evening at 6.30 pm. Additionally, you can see his work included in the group exhibition We are living on a star, still on view at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter, Oslo, until 27 April.

Robert Kuśmirowski

 

This year's Summer Academy will specially be present and visible in the city center of Salzburg. Well-known Polish artist Robert Kuśmirowski in his course "pub art" will deal with topical discussions in public art. Participants of this course will realize (temporary) projects in the public space in Salzburg.
Works of Robert Kuśmirowski currently are still on view at Museum Folkwang in Essen and at arsenal galeria in Poznan until 16 February.
